People who know theTang family had vouched for the parents' attention to both of their children: an 11-year-old girl and 2-year-old Lucas Anthony.
This is the sole reason that even though Lucas was only two years old his parents took him to the Lakers' game. However the excitement over the victory of their favorite Los Angeles Lakers over the Golden State Warriors made them linger a little longer on the third-level luxury box at the Staples Center to look at the pictures they had taken. This made them divert their attention from Lucas.
Next thing they knew Lucas fell somewhere from 25 to 50 feet below and landed on the empty plastic chairs.
Though fans are protected by glass safety barriers ranging in varying heights, but at least several feet high, authorities are still investigating how the child was able to climb over one of them.
Lucas later died in the hospital. He would've been 3 on January.
Michael Roth, vice president of communications for Staples Center offered condolences and vowed cooperation with the Los Angeles Police Department.
The Lakers were deeply shaken over the loss of their young fan.
